SMX Convention Center Clark and Olongapo bagged multiple awards at the recently concluded Department of Tourism Region 3 – Tourism Recognition for Enterprises and Stakeholders (TRES) Awards that took place at the Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga. These esteemed awards are testaments to SMX Convention Center’s commitment to excellence and innovation in the tourism and hospitality industry.
The TRES Awards hosted by DOT Region 3 aims to recognize the outstanding contributions of public and private stakeholders in Central Luzon’s tourism sector. SMX Convention Center Clark and Olongapo, being part of the scenic and rich lands of Central Luzon, made their mark on the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) categories.
On one hand, SMX Convention Center Clark brought home the following awards: Winner – Tourism Quality Awards – MICE Exhibition Category, Winner – Tourism Quality Awards – MICE Event Venue Category, and 2nd Runner Up – Tourism Quality Awards – MICE Meeting Room Category. These accolades serve as great honors for SMX Convention Center Clark as it has been gearing up for the upcoming M.I.C.E Conference which will happen on July 10 to 12, 2024.
On the other hand, SMX Convention Center Olongapo successfully garnered these awards: 1st Runner Up – Tourism Quality Awards – MICE Event Venue Category and 1st Runner Up – Mabuhay Award for Charlene Peralta in the Supervisory category. These honors are not just merely recognitions but also a celebration of the collective efforts made by each member of the SMX Force that have transformed SMX Convention Center Olongapo as an outstanding venue for hosting events in the region.

Ronald is the Business Development Manager and Waste Management Specialist of International Newater Recovery Inc. (INRI). Aside from maintaining a good business relationship with existing clients, he ensures that INRI’s technologies and systems are clearly discussed and properly introduced at the very beginning of every transaction. Ronald represents the company in most of forums, and fulfills his personal advocacy through expounding upon the best solutions for the looming waste problem of our environment today. His discussion includes solutions such as the Zero-Waste MRF for solid waste management and the MBIOTEK Hybrid IFAS Technology for wastewater treatment.
Max graduated from the Ateneo de Manila University in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in Management Engineering. He also garnered a master’s degree in Entrepreneurship from the Ateneo Graduate School of Business.
Today, he is the acting General Manager for Vanson Paper Industrial Corporation, a paper recycling and manufacturing company here in the Philippines which has been operating for almost 50 years.
Additionally, Max is the Chief Product Officer for Rural Industrial Corporation, also a paper recycling mill, which is responsible for the Philippines’ first ever recycled polyethylene-aluminum board, Poly Al Pro.
Rina, engaged in the business of waste diversion and resource transformation, strongly advocates for the halting of sending food waste to landfills. Having been trained as a Climate Reality Leader by Al Gore in 2016, and having completed a Soil Advocate course with the international group, Kiss The Ground, Rina ventured into the ending search for Soilmates. A Soilmate is committed to the act of composting food waste to contribute to regenerating the planet through reducing GHG emissions from landfills, returning more carbon to the soil, and promoting soil health everywhere.
With GreenSpace, Rina supports the company’s efforts in diverting food waste away from the landfills and into urban spaces where healthy soil is produced and local food production is supported. By offering composting buckets and high quality Bokashi bran to households and businesses who want to do their own composting, GreenSpace enables urban dwellers to contribute to green initiatives from the comfort of their home or office.
Richard is the Standards & Compliance Manager for the Plastic Credit Exchange. He is responsible for leading standards and compliance development and review, supporting flagship projects and operations including coordination with various aggregators, materials recovery facilities, and processing partners. Richard is a chemical engineer by specialty, and has a strong background in renewable energy and environmental management. Prior to joining the team, he provided consulting services to the Asian Development Bank on environmental safeguards for water supply and sanitation projects. He also served as a geothermal research and development scientist in Energy Development Corporation, an integrated renewable energy company in the Philippines.
Graduating cum laude with a BS Nutrition degree under her belt from the University of the Philippines-Los Baños and garnering a Master’s degree in Business Administration Major in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Melody has amassed 14 years of diverse work experience focusing on sustainability in consumption and production, food systems, hospitality and tourism sectors, human and planetary health promotion and integration.
As a licensed Environmental Planner and a registered Nutritionist Dietitian, Melody has worked with various organizations ranging from academic institutions, private and healthcare organizations, national government agencies.
She currently works with WWF Philippines as a project manager leading the country’s very first sustainable consumption and production project with a focus on food service and hospitality sector in the country. Dubbed, “The Sustainable Diner: A Key Ingredient for Sustainable Tourism,” the project’s objective is to broaden the knowledge of the government, private sectors, and consumers in the Philippines on sustainable consumption and production (SCP) in food-related sectors. Furthermore, she leads SoilMate, an innovation project that helps promote food waste diversion away from the landfills.
Janine, known to her friends as Nin, is President and CEO as well as Head of Sales and Marketing for Habi Footwear & Lifestyle. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Management from the Ateneo de Manila University, and is currently pursuing her Masters in Social Enterprise Development at the Ateneo Graduate School of Business. In university, she was the President of Musmos, a sector-based organization that works toward empowering the urban poor youth. Her love for social development was what led her to pursue the Social Entrepreneurship track for her business thesis, thus kickstarting her journey with Habi.
Janine is also co-founder of the entrepreneur’s hub, Roots Katipunan, and volunteers as a youth teacher at the Grace Christian Church of the Philippines. Her interests lie in enhancing her financial literacy, cooking, fitness, and travel.
Glen currently serves as the sales and account management lead for Schneider Electric’s (SE) key partners. In turn, he ensures the fulfillment of SE products and solutions for various end-users, from property developers to industrial customers nationwide. Glen ensures that SE’s promotions of its value propositions of its technologies and solutions, including EcoStruxure, is both environmentally conscious and relevant to key market segments such as real estate and hospitality. He supports SE’s initiatives in combining digital solutions and sustainability, thus making energy safe and reliable, efficient and sustainable, open and connected.
Ira is Auro Chocolate’s Community Development Officer. A graduate of Economics and Marketing Management from De La Salle University, her work involves the development of cacao farming communities. She currently spearheads Auro’s research and community programs in assessing the needs of partner cacao farming communities, finding ways to fulfill the company’s mission of contributing towards the improvement of the farmers’ quality of life.
Fritz is a graduate of De La Salle University with a degree in Hotel Management as well as a diploma from Ecole des Roches, where he also received merit awards for Service and Culinary Courses. Currently the Corporate Secretary for AQUAO3 PH Corporation, he supports the company’s mission in providing the Philippine market with a better, eco-friendly option to harsh cleaning chemicals, sanitizers and disinfectants. He promotes AQUAO3 PH’s corporate social responsibility initiatives by enabling clients and stakeholders in their efforts to lower their carbon footprint by relying less on harsh chemicals that tend to harm groundwater and the environment in general.
Fritz continues to bring awareness of these relevant factors and solutions in order to help build a healthier, greener Philippines.
The founder and President of D&G Pacific Corporation, Edmund Dimalanta, is passionate about pioneering and developing businesses in Asia. As a father and member of a large community, he sees the urge of changing the waste management direction in the Philippines. He has dedicated his time to providing more environmentally friendly and sustainable solutions to solve the growing waste management challenges in the country.
Alexis is currently the Food Hygienist handling all the properties under SMX Convention Center. She brings with her seven years of extensive experience in Food Safety, Hygiene and Sanitation. She is also skilled in program planning and systems auditing of food safety programs in different settings – hospitality; Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE); catering; and restaurant. Alexis has a strong background in pre-opening properties and building Food Safety Management Systems from the ground up.
Boyet is the Technical Services Manager of SM Hotels and Conventions Corp. (SMHCC). He is part of the team that assures the operational excellence for facility management in all of SMHCC’s properties. With a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of the East and a professional certification in facilities management from UP national engineering center under his belt, he has been practicing engineering and facility management for 28 years. Boyet is a certified Sustainability Practitioner from the Institute of Certified Sustainability Practitioners (ICSP) and uses his technical know-how in supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through implementing projects initiated by SMHCC.
